ModeratorEmily,
Start in an ordinary way. As you would do anything else.
Spend some time understanding the instruction. What it is asking you to do:– What is the body posture
– How are you supposed to move
– how long do you pause/hold
– Where should you keep your awarenessless instructions to yourself is better 🙂
Keep it simple. You can add details later. Now do the instructions in a completely ordinary way.
You will find yourself doing a couple of things– the internal instructor pops up and gives you instructions s you are doing it.
– sometime even additional instructions. (just because)
– the internal monitor will hop in and check how you are doing
– Just to make sure you are doing OK
– Now your internal evaluator turns up
– Tells you that you are doing great.
– maybe tells you that you suck
– Sometimes doesn’t say anything. Just mutters in the background about you.
– evaluator wants to make sure you are doing good. Maybe even perfectAll of this is a disturbance in your practice.
But that is where you start.
We have to start from where we are.But none of that is needed.
But these internal voices will disagree and tell you that they are needed and that they are very important.
Don’t ask them to shut up. They will yell louder at you.Just don’t pay too much attention to them. If you don’t feed them energy, they will fade away over time (may happen quickly or take longer. A quiet relaxed patience is a powerfull weapon here. Even the Bodhisattvas use patience 🙂
Lets look at this again [some light responses in square brackets. You may think of others]:
– the internal instructor pops up and gives you instructions
– [Do you really need instructions while you are doing it. You know what to do.]
– the internal monitor will hop in and check how you are doing
– [What use is this monitor? You are doing the practice anyways]
– Now your internal evaluator turns up
– evaluator wants to make sure you are doing good. Maybe even perfect
– [evaluator wants you to be perfect? Be imperfect. Your imperfection is perfect 🙂 ]Now that you have read all this.
Forget it all.
You know what to doSlowly you will find that all this effort fades away.
When there is no longer any effort, is it effortless?
Don’t listen internal reminder, instructor, monitor and evaluator. They are messing with you.Are you effortless now ?
Don’t pay attention to the voice that says that.I wish you enjoyment on the journey from effort to to effortlessness
