This is a good point, Christina, and we welcome input. It could be kept simple and clear as applying to both the physical and the psychological/emotional.

Hi Rebecca, We will be presenting the assignment on the weekend, but here is the basic plan so you can get started. We want 2 documents – a teaching plan, and a class handout. One is for you to structure your presentation, the second is the summary you give to your students. It can be a beginning class, a class from a series, or a more advanced class. We want you to extend your range of exercises and not include those you have done before. We will give more details on the weekend.

Can we consider this along the lines of what are our ‘tools’ in Kum Nye?

    1) Congratulations! You already have taken the first step – becoming aware of a sense of dullness or holding in the belly area. Approach, as always, with kindness and curiosity; protection or armoring in this area may have served some purpose at some point. Your awareness alone will start to awaken the area.

    2) Breath: Check at times through out the day – does your breath reach into the belly area? Practice with that light, slow, but deep breath moving all the way to the pelvis; placing your hands on your lower belly can encourage this as Anita did last night. Perhaps start with a few fuller breaths, emphasizing the expansion of the belly on the inhale, and contraction in navel and root area on the exhale (#13 Cleansing Breath will do this – try it every morning).

    3) Postures and movement: You can emphasize movement exercises that activate the belly or lower body – some we have done like #34 Inner Gold, #26 Activating Inner Massage, #33 Energizing the Lower Body, #68 Clearing Confusion, #75 Body of Energy…. search the book and see what exercises are activating that area.

    4) Massage: the belly massage (pp 118-122) is wonderful before going to bed, especially for quelling anxiety. The energy centers start with the umbilicus – so many connections here; our ‘second brain.’ Many unprocessed feelings may be stored here. Releasing energies may not always feel good – can you stay with a welcoming attitude to all that arises? Go gently at the pace that is right for you.

    5) Visualization: #72 Embodiment practice (pp 309-311)- placing attention on the energy centers in Seven Gestures, starting with the navel center for 3 days.

So many possibilities! Allow it to be a joyful, nurturing, open ended exploration.

    Hi All,

I am sending out an email this weekend to those who expressed interest in the retreat June 6 – 9, 2024, with more details and a Paypal link for making a deposit. If you may have an interest and want more details let me know and I’ll send you the email as well. If your interest develops in the coming months let me know then. There may still be space for you, but not guaranteed.

See you all soon online for weekend workshop 2.

The Term 1 Monday night class recordings, as well as Workshop 1 & 2 recordings, will remain available until the start of Term 3 in January. That should allow plenty of time for ‘catching up’, or re-viewing the recordings. We want to encourage students to stay as current as possible. The same window of access will apply for subsequent terms (i.e., Term 2 recordings will be available until the start of Term 4, etc.)

If circumstances arise for you that require access to material no longer available, just let us know!

    Hi All,
The retreat manager has said that people can come early for the retreat by 1 or more days at the same rate of $150 + tax per person per night. Breakfast and lunch are included, but not dinner on non-retreat days. It is more difficult for them to accommodate people after the retreat than before.

As of now, proof of vaccination (but not necessarily boosters) is required, and a negative Covid test. That may change by June, but is the current policy.

Though we need a minimum of 14 participants to reserve the cottages (by end of October), which we seem to have, there is an opportunity to add more participants if someone decides they can join in the coming months.

A non-refundable $97 USD deposit per person is due to secure the reservation. The balance of the cost is due April 30, 2024.

I will send out a note to those who have expressed interest and get the ball rolling!

    Hope you can join!
    🙂 Donna

I will check on this as well this week to get the details. I know they require a negative Covid test in the 24 hours prior to attending.

Unfortunately, the Nyingma Institute does not have accommodations for guests, but I will inquire with Ratna Ling to ask about the possibility of extending the time there. There has already been one request for this. I will respond when I hear back from the retreat manager.

We’ll see what we can do. The challenge is to pair people up for cottages, so costs can be shared. 🙂 Donna

I’d start with the big, flowing movements, then with breath, and definitely Belly massage – that massage is definitely helpful for anxiety done on a regular basis.

That is wonderful, Lisa. You may want to take a look at the article ‘An Introduction to Feeling and Emotion in Kum Nye’ under the Additional Articles tab.
